Getting Started
This guide walks you through the current setup: install the iPhone app, choose a sync or export path, import your data on Mac, and run your first analysis.
All core processing stays on your devices. The app only sends data to a provider or AI service when you explicitly configure one.
Overview
The product now has two apps that work together:
- iPhone app — reads Apple Health data, exports XML or JSON when needed, syncs to your chosen destination, and powers the Home Screen widget.
- Mac app — imports Apple Health XML, downloads synced exports from the Sync tab, visualizes trends, runs AI analysis, and can expose a local API for OpenClaw and scripts.
Prerequisites
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| iPhone | iOS 16 or later |
| Mac | macOS 13 or later |
| Apple Health data | At least a few days of data such as steps, sleep, heart rate, or workouts |
| Optional shared network | Only required if you want to use Direct to Mac on the same local network |
Step 1: Install the iPhone App
Download Health Data Export & AI Analyzer from the App Store on your iPhone.
Grant Health access when prompted so the app can read your Apple Health data locally.
Step 2: Choose Your iPhone Path
| Path | Best For |
|---|---|
| Manual export | One-off XML export to AirDrop, Files, or another share destination |
| Sync | Ongoing updates through iCloud, Google Drive, Dropbox, Direct to Mac, REST API, Home Assistant, or Nextcloud / WebDAV |
If you want the simplest first run, start with manual export. If you plan to use the app regularly, set up sync now.
Step 3: Export or Sync from iPhone
Manual export:
- Open the Export tab.
- Choose your options.
- Export an XML file for the Mac app.
- Send it with AirDrop, Files, or another share target.
Sync:
- Open the Sync tab.
- Pick your provider and complete its setup.
- Run your first sync.
- After the first sync, later syncs become incremental.
Step 4: Get the Data onto Your Mac
- AirDrop or Files: import the XML file directly on Mac.
- Direct to Mac: the iPhone app sends the export directly to the Mac sync workflow.
- Cloud or file providers: open the Mac app’s Sync tab and pull the latest export into analysis.
Step 5: Import into the Mac App
- If you already have an XML file, drag and drop it into the Mac app.
- If you used sync, open the Mac Sync tab and download the latest XML export.
- Let the Mac app validate and open the dataset.
Step 6: Run Your First Analysis
- Review the built-in charts and summaries.
- Optionally open AI Analysis and choose a provider.
- Run an AI summary or ask a more specific question.
The current Mac app supports OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, Ollama, and LM Studio.
Step 7: Optional Next Steps
- Add the widget on iPhone for Quick Sync, Quick Export, or an Open Sync shortcut.
- Enable the local API on Mac if you want OpenClaw, Claude Code, scripts, or Shortcuts to read your selected dataset.
- Save an analysis on Mac so you can reopen it later or use it for integrations.
