Sync Apple Health to Mac Over WiFi
Transfer your Apple Health data directly from iPhone to Mac over your local network. No cloud accounts, no export files, no AirDrop. Just a fast, private, device-to-device sync.
Requirements: the iPhone app (Health Data Export) and the Mac app (Health Data AI Analyzer) installed on the same local network.
Why direct sync?
Apple Health exports are powerful, but the traditional workflow is cumbersome: export a massive XML file, AirDrop it to your Mac, wait for it to transfer, then import it. Direct WiFi sync eliminates all of that.
100% Private
Data stays on your local network. Never touches the internet.
WiFi or Ethernet
Works on any local network. No Bluetooth or AirDrop needed.
Fast Transfer
Sync only what you need. No 1GB export file to move around.
How to sync Apple Health to Mac (5 steps)
Open the Mac app
Navigate to the Sync tab. Your Mac's local IP address and a 6-digit pairing code are displayed.
Select "Direct to Mac" on iPhone
Open the iPhone app, go to Sync, and switch the provider from iCloud to Direct to Mac.
Enter your Mac's IP address
Type the IP address shown on the Mac app (e.g. 192.168.68.63). Both devices must be on the same network.
Enter the 6-digit pairing code
The pairing code confirms you're connecting to the right Mac. This prevents accidental connections on shared networks.
Tap "Sync Now"
Once paired, tap Sync Now to transfer your health data. The progress bar shows real-time transfer status. Your data goes directly from iPhone to Mac.
What health data can you sync?
Direct sync transfers all Apple Health record types, including:
Direct sync vs. other transfer methods
| Feature | Direct Sync | AirDrop | iCloud |
|---|---|---|---|
| Export file needed | No | Yes | Yes |
| Data leaves your network | No | No | Yes |
| Cloud account required | No | No | Yes |
| Selective sync | Yes | No (full export) | Depends |
| Repeat syncs | One tap | Re-export each time | Manual upload |
| Internet required | No | No | Yes |
Privacy and security
Direct sync was designed with a single principle: your health data should never leave your devices.
- Data transfers directly between your iPhone and Mac on your local network.
- The 6-digit pairing code ensures only your devices can connect.
- No internet connection is required during the sync. You can disconnect from the internet entirely.
- No data is sent to any server, cloud service, or third party at any point.
- Once paired, future syncs are one-tap — no code re-entry needed.
Frequently asked questions
How do I sync Apple Health data to my Mac without iCloud?
Install the Health Data Export app on iPhone and the Health Data AI Analyzer on Mac. Open the Mac app's Sync tab, enter the IP and pairing code on the iPhone app, and tap Connect. Data transfers directly over your local network.
Is my Apple Health data private when using WiFi sync?
Yes. Data transfers directly between your devices using a secure pairing code. Nothing is uploaded to any server or cloud service. The sync works without an internet connection.
Do I need to export Apple Health data first?
No. Direct sync reads from HealthKit on your iPhone and transfers to the Mac app. No export.xml needed, unlike AirDrop or cloud methods.
What if my Mac doesn't appear on my iPhone?
Ensure both devices are on the same WiFi network. Check your Mac's firewall settings to allow incoming connections. You can also enter the IP address and pairing code manually instead of using automatic discovery.
How fast is WiFi sync compared to AirDrop?
Usually faster, because you only transfer the data categories you select rather than a full 1GB+ export. On 5GHz WiFi or ethernet, syncs typically complete in seconds to a few minutes.
