Sync Apple Health Data to Dropbox Automatically

Export your health data on a schedule and have it land in your Dropbox folder — no manual steps, no cloud middleman beyond Dropbox itself.

Download on the App Store

How it works

The Health Data Export app reads your HealthKit data directly on your iPhone, converts it to JSON or CSV, and uploads the file to a Dropbox folder of your choosing via the Dropbox API. You supply a personal access token once during setup — after that, the app handles every sync on its own. No sharing your Apple Health data with third-party servers; the file goes from your phone straight to your Dropbox account.

You can trigger syncs manually or let Auto-Sync run on a schedule. Either way, the result is an always-fresh export file sitting in your Dropbox, ready to open, share, or pipe into other tools.

Step-by-step setup

1

Download Health Data Export from the App Store

Get the free iPhone app at apps.apple.com. Grant it read access to Apple Health when prompted — everything runs on-device.

2

Open Settings → Sync → choose Dropbox

Inside the app, tap the Settings tab, then Sync. Select Dropbox from the list of sync providers.

3

Generate a Dropbox access token at dropbox.com/developers/apps

Log into the Dropbox developer console, create a new app (choose Full Dropbox access scope), and click Generate access token. Copy the token — you won't see it again.

4

Paste the token and set your folder path

Paste the token into the app's Dropbox token field. Set a destination folder path such as /HealthData/. The folder is created automatically if it doesn't exist yet.

5

Choose file naming: Timestamped or Stable

Pick Timestamped to save a new file each sync (e.g. health-2026-04-13.json) and build a history. Pick Stable to always write to the same filename (e.g. health-latest.json) and keep it current.

6

Enable Auto-Sync and pick your interval

Toggle Auto-Sync on and choose your preferred cadence — daily, weekly, or another interval. The app will sync in the background even when you don't open it.

7

Tap Sync Now to test — check your Dropbox folder

Tap Sync Now to run the first sync immediately. Open your Dropbox folder on any device and confirm the export file is there.

What data syncs to Dropbox

Every major Apple Health data type is included in the export file:

Data type Included
Steps
Sleep stages
Heart Rate
Heart Rate Variability (HRV)
Workouts
Weight
VO2 Max

Stable vs Timestamped file naming

The app offers two file naming modes for your Dropbox exports, each suited to a different use case:

Stable

Always writes to the same filename (e.g. health-latest.json). Every sync overwrites the previous file, so the file is always up to date. Best for integrations, automations, and scripts that need to read the latest snapshot without tracking filenames.

Timestamped

Creates a new file on every sync (e.g. health-2026-04-13T08-00.json). Each file is preserved, building a chronological archive in your Dropbox folder. Best for long-term data history, version comparison, or reviewing how your metrics change over time.
